Without Us There Is No Britain, 2021, depicts a figure with raised fist, inspired by the issue one cover of Mukti, a feminist magazine by and for Asian women published in the UK in 1983. It combines a powerful message with a celebration of what Burman describes as Bollywood-inspired ‘bling’. Each print has been embellished with metallic foil, hand-applied paper quill hearts and a spot of fuchsia glitter. The limited edition made exclusively for Tate, comes unframed and is signed and numbered by the artist.
